Since the weather is getting cooler, please be sure to dress your child properly.  We go outside for recess almost every day and some students have been complaining because they don’t have a jacket or sweater.  Also, please be sure to write your child’s name in their coats, sweaters, book bags, lunch bags, etc.  Items are being lost because Kindergarten students don’t know if it’s theirs.  It makes things much easier if there is a name on it.

Please send your child’s $4.00 donation for the Fall Festival as soon as possible, if you haven’t done so already!  The money is needed to buy supplies to make the day extra special for our Kindergarten students.  The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 17th.  There will be a meeting for any parents, or grandparents that would like to help on Sunday, October 13th at 5:30 at the Mineshaft.

The next Fall Festival meeting will be held on Sunday, September 29 at 5:30 at the Mineshaft in Ashalnd.

**Please help your child practice/learn his/her 4-digit computer number. This will help him/her log into the computer quickly and give him/her more time to work when using computers at school.  (We can also stop wearing our name badges to lunch and library once all students know their ID number for the cooks and librarians!)

With Fall and the cooler weather upon us, please be sure your child has the proper clothing for a ½ hour outside recess.  Kindergarten tries to get out for “fresh air” and time to run around whenever the weather allows.  Temperatures can vary from morning to afternoon and sometimes the shady areas of the playground are chilly.  Better to be prepared with a jacket/sweater/sweatshirt than be underdressed.  Also, please have your child practice zippering and/or buttoning his/her coat and “pulling” the sleeves right-side out before attempting to put it on.  Thank you!!!

Hearing screens are scheduled for Tuesday, September 24th.  Kindergarten should be tested from 10:00-11:00 am.  Discuss with your child the importance of being quiet while the testers are working with each student!
We have begun practicing writing our first names.  Please watch your child as he/she is writing.  Be sure to check if letters are beginning at the top, not the bottom and also guide him/her to use the lines when forming letters.  Capital letters should only be used at the beginning of names!
Our Kindergarten class has begun a science unit called Trees.  We will be observing and comparing trees in and around the school.  We have adopted a maple tree as our “class tree” to watch throughout the seasons.  We’ve been learning about the tree parts; roots, trunk, branches, and leaves.  **Your child may come home with lots of information and questions about trees and tree parts.  You can join in the tree study by taking your child for walks in your neighborhood to observe trees and to compare how they are alike and how they are different.  See which trees lose their leaves in the fall and which keep them all year?  Look closely at the leaves.  Do the trees have buds, flowers, fruit, or seeds?  You might notice things about trees that you never thought about before!!!

(The more parent/grandparent volunteers, the more activities @ the Fall Festival)   **The meeting may run until the end of the school day.  **If you are unable to make the meeting on 9/17, but want to help and/or participate at the Fall Festival, then please send a note to school with your contact information and it will be given to someone at the meeting.  The Fall Festival will be held at the school on Thursday, Oct. 17th
