 In Phonics we will be learning our last letter! We will learn the consonant “Qq” as in quiet, quilt, and queen! There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Qq. After Easter break, girls will get to be “Queens for a Day.” Students will also learn about the combination qu, and to help them remember that q and u shall never part we will have a wedding! More information will be sent home.
In Reading, we’ll read Mayday, Mayday!: A Coast Guard Rescue! In this book the United States Coast Guard leaps into action when they hear a call for help. A team of four highly trained rescue specialists head out in an H-60 Jayhawk helicopter. Battling fierce conditions, the Coast Guard team finally locates the disabled boat, rescues the crew, treats injured passengers, and carries them back to safety. We will be discussing emergency transportation. Students will learn about cause and effect. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.
In Math students will continue to practice using money (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.) They’ll also practice matching equivalent sets and identifying doubles. Please practice identification of pennies, nickels, and dimes, along with their values, at home. A lot of students are struggling with this concept.
On Wednesday, we celebrated “Watery Wednesday” with lots of water experiments. We tried mixing things with water and testing what floats and sinks. Students looked very wacky on Friday with their wacky hairstyles!
Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken Thursday, April 4th. All students must wear a white collared shirt and girls need to wear their hair down. Every student will have their picture taken even if you are not purchasing a package. Package information was sent home last week. Please try to return orders and money before Easter break. 
Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, March 27th. 
Students will be having an egg hunt one day this week (depending on the weather.)
 
Don’t forget there is no school for students Friday, March 29th, - Tuesday, April 2nd due to the Easter holiday.
We are trying to get students outside for recess as much as possible! Please be sure that your child has a warm jacket, gloves, and hat!

Ww Show and Tell

Please practice identifying penny, nickel, and dime and amount for each coin.

In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant “Ww” as in water, walrus, and wagon. We’ll have “Wacky Hair Day” on Friday! Students are invited to do something wacky to their hair on Friday. On Wednesday we’ll celebrate “Watery Wednesday” and do lots of fun activities to learn about water!

In Reading, we’ll read Max Takes the Train. In this story, based on the popular TV show Max and Ruby, Max and his grandfather use different forms of transportation in search of the ice cream shop. We will be discussing ways to travel. Students will learn about realism and fantasy. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.

In Math students will be working with tangrams again. They’ll also identify the relationship between larger and smaller number and count forward and backward on a number line.

We are continuing to work on testing for the 3rd marking period. I am so proud of how well the class has done so far!

In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant “Xx” as in x-ray and at the end of fox. There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Xx. Since “X marks the spots” students will participate in a treasure hunt! Word List 14 will be tested Friday, March 15th.

Next week in Reading we’ll read “Abuela.” This fictional book is narrated by a Hispanic-American child who imagines she's rising into the air over the park and flying away with her loving, abuela (grandmother). From the air, they see Manhattan streets, docks, an airport, and tourist attractions. We will be discussing city adventures. Students will learn about setting. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.

In Math we’ll explore tangrams. We’ll also practice measuring using nonstandard units and making graphs.

Thank you to all the parents that read the newspaper with their children this week! Congratulations to all of the Kindergarten students who found my ad in the newspaper! “I’m A Reader” contracts need to be returned by Wednesday, March 13th.

On Monday, March 18th, we’ll be learning about St. Patrick ’s Day! Kindergarteners will watch the 3rd grade students' annual St. Patrick’s Day parade!!! Don’t forget to wear green!!!

Kindergarten physicals are on Thursday, March 14th. Students who are receiving a physical were sent a form from the nurse.

During March or April, Mrs. Hull (guidance counselor) will be observed by a Bloomsburg University student learning about the field of school counseling. If your child is currently receiving group or individual counseling and you do NOT want the Bloomsburg student attending any sessions with Mrs. Hull and your child, please call 874-3661 x3019.

In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant “Jj” as in jar, jam, and jungle. Instead of show and tell each student will share a joke on Friday! Please see the paper in your child’s folder today.

In Reading we’ll read “If You Could Go to Antarctica.” This is a nonfiction book that will teach students all about life in Antarctica. We will be discussing adventures. Students will learn about classifying and categorizing. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home.

In Math we’ll be comparing numbers. Students will learn how to play the card game “War.” We’ll also learn a new pattern, ABBC.

This week we celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss! We read LOTS of Dr. Seuss books, and completed lots of activities. A special thank you to the Bloomsburg University Studentst, and our favorite Lady Spartan basketball coach Ms. Hughes!
