 In Phonics we will be learning our last letter! We will learn the consonant “Qq” as in quiet, quilt, and queen! There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Qq.   Students will also learn about the combination qu, and to help them remember that q and u shall never part we will have a wedding! More information will be sent home.

In Reading, we’ll read Max Takes the Train. In this story, based on the popular TV show Max and Ruby, Max and his grandfather use different forms of transportation in search of the ice cream shop. We will be discussing ways to travel. Students will learn about realism and fantasy. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home this week.

Kindergarten physicals are on Thursday, April 10th. Students who are receiving a physical were sent a form from the nurse.

Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken Thursday, April 3rd. All students must wear a white collared shirt and girls need to wear their hair down. Every student will have their picture taken even if you are not purchasing a package.Package information was sent home.

 Report cards for the 3rd marking period will be sent home on Friday, April 4th

In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant “Ww” as in water, walrus, and wagon.  On Wednesday we’ll celebrate “Watery Wednesday” and do lots of fun activities to learn about water!  
 To go along with our letter Ww, we will have Wacky Hair Day on Friday, March 28th.  Start thinking about a wacky hairstyle for the day.  Remember boys and girls with short hair can always wear WIGS—they are wacky too!!!
  For Math we will continue with Topic 9; Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10.  Students will decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, will find the number for any number from 1-9 that makes 10 when added to the given number, and will classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.  Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.

This week in Reading we’ll read “Abuela.” This fictional book is narrated by a Hispanic-American child who imagines she's rising into the air over the park and flying away with her loving, abuela (grandmother). From the air, they see Manhattan streets, docks, an airport, and tourist attractions. We will be discussing city adventures. Students will learn about setting. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home this week.

We are trying to get students outside for recess as much as possible! Please be sure that your child has a warm jacket, gloves, and hat!

In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 4 and read “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” This version of the classic tale remains true to the original. Goldilocks arrives at the bears' house, eats their porridge, sits in their chairs, and falls asleep in baby bear's bed! We will be discussing adventures. Students will learn about characters. Please be sure to review your Family Times.

In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant Vv and its sound as in vowel, violin, and valentine. Word List 13 will be tested however the list will not be sent home prior to the test. At this point in Kindergarten students should be able to read the words without practice. There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Vv.


In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 4 and read “One Little Mouse.” When one little mouse goes in search of a new place to sleep, what does he find? Two moles, three frogs, four quail, and a forest full of animals willing to open their hearts and homes to him. But like most travelers, this little mouse finds there is no place like home! We will be discussing animal adventures. Students will learn about consonant blends and sequence. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home today.
