November 24-26
There will be no homework this week.

This week we will continue our Thanksgiving Theme and will celebrate our own Kindergarten Thanksgiving by watching Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving with our 4th grade, reading buddies.  

·     On Tuesday, November 25th, a letter to Santa will be coming home for you to complete with your child.  Please return this letter by Tuesday, December 2nd.  A postman will be visiting sometime early in December to pick up the letters at school and take them directly to Santa at the North Pole!  We will address the letters in school.

Wednesday, November 26th will be an early dismissal @ 1:00pm and will be our last day of school before the holiday break.  There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, Friday, and Monday, November 27-December 1.  School reopens on Tuesday, December 2nd.

Be thankful for these wonderful gifts that you have.  They are all unique in a special way.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with them.

Wednesday, November 26 is a 1:00 early dismissal for students.  There is no school November 27, 28 and December 1.

In Reading we will read the story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will be working on the short /i/ sound as in inch, igloo, and Indian. Continue to practice the high frequency words; I, am, a, the, to, is, have, little, my, like, we, he, and for.
In Math we will be finishing up Topic 3:  Numbers 6-10.  Students should be practicing writing numbers from 0-10 correctly and continue counting by 1’s to 100.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.
Anyone who ordered from the PTO Fall Book Fundraiser is to pick up his/her order(s) in the NSE gymnasium on Thursday, November 20th from 4:00-7:00 PM. 

Family and Friends are invited to attend the K-3 Christmas Concert which will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 4th in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium. 
Students are asked to arrive at the high school (please use the doors at the gymnasium/ auditorium) between 6:15 and 6:30 PM. Teachers will be available to escort students to the gym.  
Students need to be dressed in dress code OR BETTER! Girls may wear Christmas dresses, skirts, etc. Boys can wear shirts, ties, Christmas sweaters, etc. NO JEANS OR GYM CLOTHES!  
**Kindergarten will walk to the high school to practice for the concert the morning of December 4th.  Please be sure your child is wearing good walking shoes and dressed appropriately for the weather!  (In the event of rain or snow, buses will be provided.)

Friday, November 7th all NSE students attended an assembly in the gym titled “Mikayla’s Voice”.  The program was about Inclusion and was designed to help educate and inspire children to embrace individuals of all abilities.  Take some time to talk with your child about what he/she has learned.

This week will read the story Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman in Reading.  We will be discussing hibernation and will learn to differentiate between real and make believe.

In Math we will be working with Topic 3: Six to Ten.  Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways. 

Start practicing counting from 1 to 100.

Pp Show and Tell

In Reading we will read the book Animal Babies in Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield.  We will be talking about grassland animals, review the letter Pp and the /p/ sound, and practice the comprehension skill main idea.  The words we, my, and like will be introduced as new high frequency words.
To celebrate the letter Pp we will have a Pajama Party on Friday, November 7th .Students are asked to wear their pajamas to school.  Robes and slippers are optional, however, we ask that students WEAR sneakers or shoes to and from school. 


Thank you to ALL the classroom helpers who helped with the Halloween party and parade, and also to all the friends and family who came to watch the parade.  It was a BOO-tiful time for all! 
Be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat, so that when we go outside for our 30 minute recess the students are prepared for any changes in temperature or for the lengthy time outside.  We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat.
For Math we will finish Topic 2:  Comparing and Ordering Numbers 0-5.  Take some time to practice number writing and counting sets, and be sure to review daily practice pages. 
  Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Monday, November 10th.   Conference confirmation notes were sent home on Wednesday, 10/29.   Please sign and return the bottom portion by Monday, November 3rd. Please note:  There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, 11/10.
