Friday, Feb.5 is now the 100th day of school.

            For Reading this week we will read the story, The Lion and the Mouse. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.  We will review the short /o/ sound in words.

         Just a reminder:  January AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets will be due on Friday, January 29th.  The goal for the month is 15 books.  Any student who reads and records 15 or more books will receive a Pizza Hut reward coupon.  

         In Math we will continue with Topic 6; Numbers to 100.  Continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s and writing numbers to 20.  Take some time to review daily practice pages!

The Valentine’s Day party will be held on Thursday, February 11thfrom 1:30-3:00. A Valentine’s Class List will be sent home to help you prepare valentines for the party.

For Reading we will continue with Unit 3 and the story Then and Now.  It is a nonfiction book and we will talk about the comprehension strategy “draw conclusions”.  We will also work with the initial and medial short /o/ sound and the letter Oo.

In math, we will begin Topic 6: Numbers to 100.  Review counting, reading, and writing numbers 0-20 and ordering numbers forward and backward.  Also practice counting by 1s and 10s to 100.         

February 3 is tentatively the 100th day of school. More information about this special day will be in your child's folder on Friday.

We will be starting the next story Farfallina and Marcel for Reading.  In this book we will talk about the comprehension strategy “plot” and how friendships are formed and can change.  We will also be learning the letter Ff.   

In Math we will be continuing Topic 5; Numbers to 20.  Practice counting, reading, and writing numbers to 20 and take some time to review daily practice pages! 

Since we are soon half way through Kindergarten, the teachers are asking that each student practice tying his/her shoes.  This is a skill that we would like to see your child master before first grade.  

School will be CLOSED for Students on Monday, January 18th for Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.  

Dinosaur Projects are due on Friday, January 15.

For Reading we will continue with Unit 3; Watch Me Change.  After the holidays, we will move on to the story, George Washington Visits.  It is a historical fiction story, and we will be discussing how life today is different from life 100s of years ago.  For phonics we will be working with the letters Dd and Kk and their sounds /d/ and /k/.

Dinosaur reports will go home on Monday, January 4.  They are due on Friday, January 15.

In math, we will be working with Numbers to 20 for Topic 5.  Take some time to practice comparing sets (greater and fewer) and ordering numbers using a number line.

Accelerated Reader Lists are due Tuesday, January 5.  A new January list will go home Monday, January 4.
