For Math we will be finishing up Topic 12 Measurement.  Students will be comparing length, height, weight, and capacities.  Please review daily work mats!

We will read our last Reading story in Unit 5. It is This is the Way We Go to School. It is a fiction story about children around the world.  The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is drawing conclusions and we will work with the letter sounds /y/ and /kw/ for the letters Yy and Qq.

Queen Day will be next Wednesday, May 4.

Our class participated in the “A Child’s View” writing for the Republican Herald newspaper.  The entries and a class photo are to be published in a supplement on Thursday, April 28th.  Students answered the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up and why?”  Be sure to check it out!!

In Reading we will start a new story titled, On The Move.   It is an informational text by author Donna Latham.  We will work with the letter sounds /v/ and /z/ and the comprehension skill, main idea.

    Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at 6:00 pm in the NS High School Auditorium.  Specific details about parking, seating, etc. will be sent home closer to the date. Due to limited seating, each Kindergarten student will be limited to 5 tickets.  If a small child (non-school age) is going to sit on an adult’s lap, they will not need a ticket.  Your Kindergarten child is not part of the count.  No one will be admitted to Graduation without a ticket.  Graduation tickets will be sent home Friday, May 20th.  If tickets are misplaced, we will not be able to replace them. 

THE SCHOOL STORE WILL BE CLOSED DURING THE WEEKS OF APRIL 11 and APRIL 18!

For Reading we will begin the story The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper.  It is a classic fantasy story, and we will be talking about how trains move.  We will be learning more about short /u/ sound and the comprehension skill, plot.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter on Monday.

In Math, we will finish up with Topic 11 Decomposing Numbers 11-19 and begin working with Topic 12 Measurement.  In Topic 12 we will be comparing objects by length, height, capacity, and weight.  Review the new math words; longer, shorter, as tall as, taller, and lighter.

The PTO Chinese Auction will be held at NSE on Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th.  Our class's basket is "K-Cups”.  Be sure to take a chance or more on winning!  Remember the Kindergarten class with the most tickets gets an Ice Cream party!  Thank you again for your donations!!!

     For Reading we will continue with the next story in Unit 5 Trucks Roll!  It is a non-fiction, rhyming story and we will be talking about forms of transportation.  The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is compare and contrast and we will work with the initial and medial short vowel sound /u/.  Take time to practice sight word flashcards, especially what, said, and was!!!

            United States’ reports are due April 8! Be sure to have him/her practice presenting the facts to you at home.  It will be fun to learn about many of our Fifty United States!

            In Math, we will be finishing Topic 10, Composing Numbers 11-19.  Practice making numbers 11-19 and continue to review addition and subtraction.  Next, we will be decomposing numbers 11 to 19 in Topic 11. Take some time to review daily work mats.

       Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 6th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.) Envelopes were previously sent home with portrait package information. If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Wednesday, April 6th in your child’s folder.  (Cash or checks made payable to PSP.)  All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap.  FYI:  Boys will be wearing blue gowns with red hats and girls will be wearing red gowns with blue hats.  If you do NOT wish to purchase pictures, PLEASE send a note stating that, so the teacher knows your child just didn’t forget to bring the envelope/money.  Thank you!! Students will be photographed beginning after 9:00 so please have your child to school on time! If your child needs any additional portrait info. sheets and/or order envelopes please let the teacher know and one will be sent home.
