December 12-16
The next story for Reading is Little Quack by Lauren Thompson.  It will be an animal fantasy story.  The comprehension skill we will target is plot, or the “what happens part of the story”.  We will be learning the consonant letter Rr and its sound /r/ as in rabbit and reindeer. Practice high frequency sight words daily!
In Math, we will finish Topic 4, review, and test comparing and ordering numbers 0-10 and will begin working with Numbers to 20 for Topic 5. 
Wednesday, December 14th will be our monthly 2- hour data delay.  It will be a NON-Rotation day (no special classes). 
            NSE PTO Presents Brainshowmania! on Thursday, December 15th in the NSE gymnasium.  Kindergarten will participate at 1:10. Be sure to ask your child all about it!!
            Friday, December 16th is a Dress Down Day and students may wear jeans, sweatpants, gym attire, Spartan spirit shirts or regular dress code clothing.  A $1 donation will be collected for those participating!
            Just a reminder—the Bowl for Kids Sake pledge envelopes are due back by Friday, December 16th. Students bowled during gym class.  THANK YOU for your participation and support!
            Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess.  Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed.  Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh-air”.
Kindergarten will be having a “Polar Express” day on Friday, December 23rd.  Students are asked to wear their pajamas to school to dress like the characters in the book.  **Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided for snack!  There will be an early dismissal at 12:00 so there will be NO BREAKFAST served. 
December AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets will be due January 3rd.  The goal for the month is 15 books.  Keep up the great work and Keep Reading!!

We will be reading the story Little Panda by Joanne Ryder.  This is an informational text, and we will be talking about “Animals Grow and Change”.  The comprehension skill we will target is compare and contrast and we will work with the letter sounds of /n/ and /b/.  Many boys and girls may be interested in checking the live Panda Cam at the San Diego Zoo from home at the following website: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/pandacam/ Practice high frequency sight words daily! 

In Math we will continue to Compare and Order numbers 0-10.  Review the daily practice pages with your child, practice counting to 100 by 1s and 10s, review 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and identifying and writing numbers 0-20!
