April 24-28
In Reading we will start a new story titled, This Is the Way We Go to School.   It is a fiction story about children around the world.  We will work with the letter sounds /y/ and /kw/ for the letters Yy and Qq.  The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is drawing conclusions. 

In Math, we will continue with Topic 10 Composing Numbers 11-19. Practice making numbers 11-19 and continue to review addition and subtraction. 

Students in Grades 3-6 will continue taking the PSSA tests during the week.  Kindergarten’s schedule will be switched around T-Th, 4/25-4/27Special classes will be 9:00-9:45, instead of 2:00-2:45.  Please talk to your child about being quiet while in the hallways during testing days!!

      Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 1:00 pm in the NS High School Auditorium.  Specific details about parking, seating, etc. will be sent home closer to the date.  Due to limited seating, each Kindergarten student will be limited to 5 tickets.  If a small child (non-school age) is going to sit on an adult’s lap, they will not need a ticket.  Your Kindergarten child is not part of the count.  No one will be admitted to Graduation without a ticket.  Graduation tickets will be sent home closer to Graduation.  If tickets are misplaced, we will not be able to replace them. 
      FYI:  Our class participated in the “A Child’s View” writing for the Republican Herald newspaper.  The entries and a class photo are to be published in a supplement on Thursday, April 27th.  Students answered the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up and why?”  Be sure to check it out. 

There will be a $1 Dress Down Day on Friday,April 28.

April 17-21
In Math, we will continue with Topic 10 Composing Numbers 11-19. Practice making numbers 11-19 and continue to review addition and subtraction. 

We will read our last Reading story in Unit 5. Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 20th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes were sent home with portrait package information on Tues. 4/4.  If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Wednesday, April 19th in your child’s folder.  (checks made payable to PSP.)  All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap

      The April Behavior Reward will be an egg hunt on Friday, April 28th.  Please encourage good behavior all month!!
For Science, we have been learning about living and nonliving things and what living things NEED.  We will be discussing plants and animals and their life cycles.
The School Science Fair will be held on Tuesday, 4/18 and Wednesday, 4/19 from 4-6 PM in the NSE Gym.
The NSE ART SHOW will be held on Wednesday, 4/19 from 4-6 PM.   Please stop by to check out all the awesome artwork!!!
Friday, April 21 will be the monthly Spartan Dress Down Day.  Students can wear jeans or sweats and a Spartan shirt with a paid $1 donation.

April 10-13
           There is no school on Friday, April 14.

           There is no Data Delay for this month.

           For Reading we will begin the story The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper.  It is a classic fantasy story, and we will be talking about how trains move.  We will be learning more about short /u/ sound and the comprehension skill, plot.  

           In Math, we will begin Topic 10.  Topic 10 will take composing numbers further from 11-19. Continue to practice with addition and subtraction too!

April 3-7
         For Reading we will continue with the next story in Unit 5 Trucks Roll!  It is a non-fiction, rhyming story and we will be talking about forms of transportation.  The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is compare and contrast and we will work with the initial and medial short vowel sound /u/. 

            United States’ reports will begin on Friday, April 7th! Be sure to have your practice presenting the facts to you at home.  It will be fun to learn about many of our Nifty, Fifty United States!

           The April PTO meeting will be held on Monday, April 3rd and it will start at 6:30.  All are invited and encouraged to attend!!
