We will be reading the story Little Panda by Joanne Ryder.  This is an informational text, and we will be talking about “Animals Grow and Change”.  The comprehension skill we will target is compare and contrast.  Many boys and girls may be interested in checking the live Panda Cam at the San Diego Zoo from home at the following website: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/pandacam/ Practice high frequency sight words daily! 

In math, we will continue working on reading, writing, and counting numbers from 1-20.

AR/Book Buddy recording sheets for December will be due back to school on Wednesday, Wednesday, January 2.  Any student who reaches the goal of 15 books will receive a Pizza Hut Book It slip.

Our Christmas concert will be held at the HS on Saturday, December 8.

Our class Holiday shopping day is Monday, December 3.  Envelopes were sent home in your child's Sparty folder.

Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess.  Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed.  Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh-air”.  Please practice zipping zippers and putting on gloves with your child.

In Reading the next story will be Jack and the Beanstalk.  It is a modern fairy tale.  We will be discussing more with realism and fantasy. 

In math, we will continue working on numbers from 1-20.
School will be closed Nov. 22-26.  School will reopen Tuesday, November 27.

AR/Book Buddy recording sheets for November will be due back to school on Friday, November 30th.  Any student who reaches the goal of 15 books will receive a Pizza Hut Book It slip.

November 13-16
Please continue to practice:
--counting to 100--word lists (tested every Friday)--writing numbers 0-20

In Reading we will begin the new story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence. 



We will begin preparing for “Thanksgiving”.  During the next two weeks, students will learn about the first Thanksgiving, will make pilgrim and Native American/Indian costumes, and will begin to learn a poem or song for the holiday.  We will make a Thanksgiving bracelet and will also discuss being “thankful”.  The students will even get to use a Native American name for a day!

In math, we will begin comparing and ordering numbers from 11-20.  Please practice counting, recognizing, and writing numbers from 0-20.

Friday, November 16 is a Spartan Dress Down Day. Donation is $1.

There is no school for students on Monday, November 12 in honor of Veterans Day.

Wednesday, November 21 is a 12 noon dismissal for students.  Students will return to school on Tuesday, November 27.

November 5- 9
As we finish our second month of school, you and your child should be practicing the following things daily:
--sight words (tested every Friday)
--orally counting from 1-100
--writing numbers from 0-20

In Reading we will read the book Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.  We will be discussing hibernation and will learn to differentiate between real and make believe.  The words we, my, and like will be reviewed.

In math, we will discuss 2 dimensional shapes and 3 dimensional shapes.

The weather is quickly changing and the days are getting colder!  Be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat for recess. We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat. 

Report cards will be sent home in your child's SPARTY folder on Friday.

There is no school for students on Monday, November 12.

Book orders are due Tuesday, November 13.
