Important activities this week:
Tuesday--We will be bused over to the HS to watch the HS band and chorus perform.-- regular school dress code.

Wednesday--Your child can wear an UGLY sweater if they donate a $1.00 for the SPCA.  The UGLY sweater can be worn with jeans or sweat pants.  If your child did not pick pajamas/ movie or donate to SPCA, they MUST wear regular dress code.


Thursday--Students will have their PBIS reward, watch the Polar Express, coloring sheets, a small craft and a small snack.

NO SNACK IS NEEDED THAT DAY!

Friday--There will be a 12:00 dismissal  There will be no breakfast served.
--Students can wear regular dress code or a spartan shirt with dress code pants.

Wednesday, December 11 is a Diversity Dress Down Day.  If your child brings a canned good or a monetary donation, they are allowed to dress down.  All donations will go to our local food banks.

In math, we will begin comparing and ordering numbers from 11-20.  Please practice counting, recognizing, and writing numbers from 0-20.

Friday, November 15 is a Spartan Dress Down Day--donation $1.

The weather is quickly changing and the days are getting colder!  Be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat for recess. We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat.

Please sign and return your child's report card envelope as soon as possible.

As we finish our second month of school, you and your child should be practicing the following things daily:

In Reading we will begin the new story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence.

In math, we will finish our unit on numbers 0-10.

We will begin preparing for “Thanksgiving”.  During the next three weeks, students will learn about the first Thanksgiving, will make pilgrim and Native American/Indian costumes, and will begin to learn a poem or song for the holiday.  We will make a Thanksgiving bracelet and will also discuss being “thankful”.  The students will even get to use a Native American name for a day!

Report cards will be sent home on Friday, November 8 in your child's SPARTY folder. You may keep the report card, just please sign and return the brown envelope.

There is no school for students on Monday, November 11 in observance of Veteran's Day.

Book orders are due Tuesday, November 12.

Book Buddy recording sheets for October are due on Friday, November 1.  Any student who reaches or exceeds the goal of 15 or more books will receive a PIZZA HUT BOOK IT coupon! 
The Pizza Hut coupons did not arrive yet. As soon as they do, I will them home.

Thursday, October 31th will be the school-wide Halloween parade/party. The parade will be streamed live. Your child should NOT wear his/her costume to school!  Please send the costume to school in a bag with your child’s name on the outside.  Students will get dressed in costumes in the classroom.  Keep in mind students will be dressing at school, so keep the costumes as simple as possible.

In math, we will continue working on reading, counting and writing numbers 0-5.

The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the Library starting Monday, October 7th  Parents will be able to shop with their child on Monday night 10/7 from 4-7 PM.   Mrs. Kaminsky's class will also be shopping in school on Monday, October 7th .

The Fall Festival is on Thursday, October 10.  Students are allowed to wear jeans or sweat pants.

We will begin the story Dig, Dig, Digging in Reading.  We will be talking about how machines help people.  We will be practicing the skill classifying and categorizing. Continue to review the high frequency words; I, am, the, little, to, and a when you read together. 

In math, we will count and write numbers from 0-5.

If you didn't hand in your child's $3 for the Fall Festival, please do so ASAP.

Picture retake day is on Wednesday, October 9.

September 30-October 4 is Spirit Week. There will be a pep rally on Friday morning in the elementary gym.

October 11 is a half day for students.  There is no school for students on Monday, October 14.


With the cold weather arriving, please practice putting on coats, and zipping or buttoning them.

Our Science theme for the week will be APPLES Each day of the week we will use the apples for sorting, graphing, and/or tasting!  We will also enjoy the theme by celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday! It should be a sweet week!!!

Sight Words are assessed once a week.  There are flash cards in your child’s folder that you should be using to review the words nightly.  Some of the class are still on List 1.   When your child moves on to a new list, continue to study the previous words along with the new list. There will be “review” tests given throughout the year to make sure students know all the words and not just the list that they are working on that week. 

The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 10th.  We are asking that each child please donate $3.00 for the Fall Festival. Please send it all donations by Tuesday, October 9th if you haven’t done so already!  Students will be permitted to wear gym clothes on Fall Festival Day no matter what their special is.

For Math we will continue working on identifying shapes.

Our next reading story will be Plaidypus Lost.  In this story, we will tag along with a lively young girl and her constant companion, Plaidypus, as they find adventures wherever they go!  We will be learning to recognize the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss, and we will practice the comprehension skill: sequence.   Continue to read at home, talk about story characters and setting, and recognize the letters from Aa-Nn, as well as the high frequency words I, am, the and little.

Picture Day is Tuesday, September 10th.  Money is due at the time of pictures and SCHOOL DRESS CODE is to be followed on picture day!  ALL students will be photographed whether or not pictures are being purchased.  Kindergarten will be photographed early in the morning so be on time to school!  Also, if you DO NOT plan to purchase pictures, please send a note stating you do not want to buy pictures, so we are not looking for an order/money envelope that morning.

August 30- September 6

There is no school on Monday, September 2 in observance of Labor Day.

 Tuessday, September 10th will be the Fall Festival Parent meeting @ 2:00 in the NSE cafeteria.  Any parent or grandparent who would like to help with the planning is welcome and encouraged to attend.  (Keep in mind that all volunteers helping the day of the Fall Festival must have all required clearances on file in the office by Oct.7th, as the Fall Festival will be held on Thursay, October 10th.) **If you would like to help, but cannot make the meeting on 9/10, then please send a note with your name and contact info. (email and phone#).

     For Reading we began with the story, The Little School Bus.  A Family Times newsletter was sent home with details about the story and skills we will be working on.  Please review the Amazing words, the ordinal numbers, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth, letter recognition of letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee, the story element “character”, and the high frequency words I & am.
        Continue to check your child’s communication folder daily.  Items on the KEEP side need to be removed at home. Any money, notes, or items for the teacher to see NEED to be in your child’s folder.  Mrs.Kaminsky doesn’t look through book bags---only the folders!

       The September Scholastic Book orders are due by Friday, Sept. 13th.  Orders can be placed online at www.scholastic.com/readingclub or send in orders and money to the teacher—cash or check made payable to Scholastic.

    Try to make sure your child has his/her bus tag every day.  The end of the day can be hectic and some children don’t know their bus numbers yet! 

     Keep practicing your child’s 5-digit number and begin practicing daily sight words!!  The first list won’t be tested for at least a week or two!!
