For Reading this week we will read the story, The Lion and the Mouse. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.
In math, we will be working with Numbers to 20 for Topic 5. Take some time to practice comparing sets (greater and fewer) and ordering numbers using a number line.
Just a reminder: January AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets will be due on Wednesday, January 31st. The goal for the month is 15 books. Any student who reads and records 15 or more books will receive a Pizza Hut reward coupon. Happy Reading!!
The 100th Day is now Thursday, February 1 (weather permitting).

In Math we will be working with Topic 4; Compare and Order Numbers 0-10. Review the daily practice pages with your child, practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s, review 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and identifying and writing numbers 0-20.
For Reading we will continue with Unit 3 and the story Then and Now. It is a nonfiction book and we will talk about the comprehension strategy “draw conclusions”.
January 30 is tentatively the 100th Day of school. Children will be allowed to dress as if they were 100 years old. Also, a 100 piece project will be due on January 30.
Friday, January 19 is a $1.00 Spartan Dress Down Day. Children could wear jeans/ sweatpants and a Spartan shirt.
School is in session Monday, January 16. Lunch for that day will be macaroni and cheese or a cheeseburger.

Tuesday--We will be bussed over to the HS to watch the HS band and chorus perform.

Wednesday--We will be watching the Polar Express.
--All kindergarteners are allowed to wear pajamas to school. If they do not wear pajamas, they must be in regular school dress code.
Thursday--PBIS--If your child picked a movie and pajamas as their reward, they are allowed to wear pajamas. Your child can also wear an UGLY sweater if they donate a $1.00 for the SPCA or a pet friendly item. The UGLY sweater can be worn with jeans or sweat pants. If your child did not pick pajamas/ movie or donate to SPCA, they MUST wear regular dress code.
Friday--There will be a 12:00 dismissal
--Students can wear regular dress code or a spartan shirt with dress code pants.

The next story for Reading is Little Quack by Lauren Thompson. It will be an animal fantasy story. The comprehension skill we will target is plot, or the “what happens part of the story”. Practice high frequency sight words daily!
For Math we will begin Topic 3: Numbers 6-10. Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways. Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.
Wednesday, December 13th will be our monthly 2- hour data delay.
Friday, December 15th is a Dress Down Day and students may wear jeans, sweatpants, gym attire, Spartan spirit shirts or regular dress code clothing. A $1 donation will be collected for those participating!
Book orders are due Monday, December 11.
Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess. Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed. Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh-air”. Please practice zipping zippers and putting on gloves with your child.

The comprehension skill we will target is compare and contrast. Many boys and girls may be interested in checking the live Panda Cam at the San Diego Zoo from home at the following website: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/pandacam/ Practice high frequency sight words daily!
