March 18-22
Please note that there is a misprint on the district event calendar.  Kindergarten Graduation will be held Tuesday, May 28th at 1:00 PM in the high school auditorium NOT on May 29th.  We apologize for the confusion!

Practice the following:
-sight words
-writing numbers 0-20
- counting to 100
- letters and sounds

For Reading we will begin Unit 5: Going Places.  Our first story will be Max Takes the Train by Rosemary Wells.  It is an animal fantasy story and we will be discussing realism and fantasy.  

In Math we will be continuing with addition.  Review daily practice pages and continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether. 

Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 4th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes will be sent home with portrait package information soon.  If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Friday, March 29th in your child’s folder.  (Cash or checks made payable to PSP.)  All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap.

March 11-15

In Reading we will read the story, Abuela, by author Arthur Dorros.  It will be the last of our “adventure” stories for Unit 4.  It will be a fiction story about a city adventure and the boys and girls will learn a few Spanish words.


In Math we will be continuing with addition.  Review daily practice pages and continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether. 

Kindergarten registration for the upcoming, 2019-2020 school year will be held the week of March 11- 15.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

The I’m a Reader forms, for those who participate, should be returned to the teacher by the following Monday (March 11) with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.

Friday, March 15 is a Spartan Dress Down Day for a $1 donation.

Books orders are due Friday, March 15.

Spring Pictures will be taken at NSE on Tuesday, March 26th.  ALL Children will be photographed and pictures will be available for purchase in 7-10 days.  PSP provides the school with a donation for every portrait package.  For best results do not wear green!!!  Students may dress up, but keep dress code in mind!!

Due to the delay, Dr. Seuss activities have been moved to Friday, March 8.
In Reading we will begin an informational text titled If You Could Go to Antarctica, by author Fay Robinson.  We will practice the comprehension skill, classify and categorize.
In math, we will continue addition.
February AR reading lists are due. New March lists are in your child's Sparty folder.
Book orders are due Thursday, March 14.
The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 27th and 28th.  Our class’ theme basket will be “Knoebels Fun”. Donations are due to the teacher by Thursday, April 18th..  If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Kaminsky will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!!  Thank you in advance for your support!
Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 4th and continue through Friday, March 8th.  Check for Mrs. Kaminsky's ad in the CLASSIFIED section of the newspaper.  Ads can be sent to school during the week for treats.  The I’m a Reader forms, for those who participate, should be returned to the teacher by the following Monday (March 11) with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.

For Reading we will the classic traditional tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears as retold by Valeri Gorbachev.


In math, we will continue adding small numbers.

Friday, March 1st is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the upcoming weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday, 3/1 to read and to do a follow up activity with the students.

February recording sheets for our AR “Book Buddy” are due  on Thursday, 2/28.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.  February Pizza Hut reward coupons will be enclosed in your child’s folder too.

February 18-22

NED’s Mindset Mission assembly is visiting our school on Tuesday, February 19th.  The performance takes your child on a journey filled with humor, yo-yo and magic tricks, puppetry, and storytelling inspiring them to:  Never give up, Encourage others, and Do their best.  Yo-yos and accessories will be available at the SCHOOL STORE February 20-26.  (Check out the orange flyer that was sent home Friday, 2/15!)

This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Thursday, February 28th.  The goal for the month is 15 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goals will receive a Pizza Hut coupon and monthly treat! 


For Reading our story will be One Little Mouse! by Dori Chaconas.  It will be a rhyming/concept story and we will review the comprehension skill, sequence.

In Math we will continue with Unit 4:  Understanding Addition.  Students will learn to join two groups and tell how many there are altogether.  They will learn to use the plus sign and the equal sign and learn about addition sentences.  Review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence and continue to review daily lessons.  

School will be in session on Monday, February 18.  It is a snow make-up day.

Book orders are due Monday, February 18.

February 11-15
Everyone enjoyed the 100th Day.  It was a great day to celebrate and have fun while counting to 100!

Practice the following:

For Reading we will read the story, My Lucky Day, by Keiko Kasza.  It is an animal fantasy (fiction) story and we will focus on the comprehension skill cause and effect.

In math, we are starting unit 4.  We are beginning to add small numbers-- for example 2+3=5.

School will be in session February 15 and 18.  These are snow make-up days.

Valentine's Day parties will be held on Friday, February 15.  

Friday, February 15 is a $1 Dress Down Day.

Book orders are due Monday, February 18.

January 28-February 1

For Reading we will begin Unit 4: Let’s Go Exploring.  The first story is Rooster’s Off to See the World by Eric Carle.  It is an animal fantasy and we will be reviewing the comprehension skill, sequence.  

In Math, we will begin joining objects together.

Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100th day is just several school days away!!!  On Thursday, January 31st, students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old! (Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100th day will be moved to the next school day.)
