March 16-20
Practice the following:

- letters and sounds

For Reading we will read the story "Mayday! Mayday! A Coast Guard Rescue".  It is an informational text and we will be discussing cause and effect.  Please practice all sight words daily!!  We will discuss what kinds of transportation help us in an emergency. 

In Math we will be continuing with addition.  Review daily practice pages and continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether. 

Friday, March 20 is a Spartan Dress Down Day.  There is a $1 donation.

Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 2nd.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes will be sent home with portrait package information soon.  If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Friday, March 27th in your child’s folder.  (Cash or checks made payable to PSP.)  All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap.

Spring pictures will be taken on Tuesday, March 24.

The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 25th and 26th.  Our class’ theme basket will be “Gift Cards". Donations are due to the teacher by Friday, April 12.  If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Kaminsky will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!! Thank you in advance for your support!

For Reading we will begin Unit 5: Going Places.  Our first story will be Max Takes the Train by Rosemary Wells.  It is an animal fantasy story and we will be discussing realism and fantasy.  

In Math we will be continuing with addition.  Review daily practice pages and continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether.

Kindergarten registration for the upcoming, 2019-2020 school year will be held the week of March 9- 13.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

The I’m a Reader forms, for those who participate, should be returned to the teacher by the following Monday (March 9) with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.

In Reading we will read the story, Abuela, by author Arthur Dorros.  It will be the last of our “adventure” stories for Unit 4.  It will be a fiction story about a city adventure and the boys and girls will learn a few Spanish words.
In math, we will continue addition.
Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 2nd and continue through Friday, March 6th.  A form to complete is in your child's SPARTY folder.  It cannot be returned until Monday, March 9.

In Reading we will begin an informational text titled If You Could Go to Antarctica, by author Fay Robinson.  We will practice the comprehension skill, classify and categorize.

In math, we will begin addition using the plus sign + and equal sign =.

Friday, February 28th is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the upcoming weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday, 2/28 to read and to do a follow up activity with the students.

February AR reading lists are due Friday, February 28.  New March lists are in your child's folder on Monday, March 2.

There is no school for students on Friday, February 14 AND Monday, February 17.

Valentine's Day parties will be held on Thursday, February 13.  Please send in Valentine's by Wednesday, February 12.

Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100th day is just several school days away!!!  On Thursday, January 30th, students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old! (Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100th day will be moved to the next school day.) The 100 day project can come in anytime this coming week.

We will be starting the next story Farfallina and Marcel for Reading.  In this book we will talk about the comprehension strategy “plot” and how friendships are formed and can change.

In math, we will compare numbers from 0-20.  This can be done by adding one more or one fewer.
 
A sight word test will be given on Friday, January 10.

January Scholastic book orders are due by Friday, January 17 for anyone interested in ordering this month.
