January 29-February 2

For Reading we will begin Unit 4: Let’s Go Exploring.  The first story is Rooster’s Off to See the World by Eric Carle.  It is an animal fantasy and we will be reviewing the comprehension skill, sequence.

In math, we will be working with Numbers to 20 for Topic 5.  Take some time to practice comparing sets (greater and fewer) and ordering numbers using a number line.

Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100th day is just several school days away!!!  O Thursday, February 1st students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old!  Also, please bring in their 100 Day project. (Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100th day will be moved to the next school day.)

Friday, February 2nd is Groundhog’s Day.  Check to see if Phil sees his shadow and whether there will be 6 more weeks of winter or an early spring!

February recording sheets for our AR “Book Buddy” bags will be sent home on Tuesday, 1/31.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.  January Pizza Hut reward coupons will be enclosed in your child’s folder too. 

Students are allowed to wear jeans and a spartan shirt on Monday, January 29 as their PBIS reward.

For Reading this week we will read the story, The Lion and the Mouse. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.

In math, we will be working with Numbers to 20 for Topic 5.  Take some time to practice comparing sets (greater and fewer) and ordering numbers using a number line.

 Just a reminder:  January AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets will be due on Wednesday, January 31st.  The goal for the month is 15 books.  Any student who reads and records 15 or more books will receive a Pizza Hut reward coupon.  Happy Reading!!

The 100th Day is now Thursday, February 1 (weather permitting).

The PBIS Spartan Dress Down has been moved from Friday, January 26 to Monday, January 29.

In Math we will be working with Topic 4; Compare and Order Numbers 0-10.  Review the daily practice pages with your child, practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s, review 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and identifying and writing numbers 0-20.



For Reading we will continue with Unit 3 and the story Then and Now.  It is a nonfiction book and we will talk about the comprehension strategy “draw conclusions”.  

January 30 is tentatively the 100th Day of school.  Children will be allowed to dress as if they were 100 years old.  Also, a 100 piece project will be due on January 30.

Friday, January 19 is a $1.00 Spartan Dress Down Day.  Children could wear jeans/ sweatpants and a Spartan shirt.

School is in session Monday, January 16.  Lunch for that day will be macaroni and cheese or a cheeseburger.

We will be starting the next story Farfallina and Marcel for Reading.  In this book we will talk about the comprehension strategy “plot” and how friendships are formed and can change.

School will be in session on Monday, January 15 (Day 6--Computers).

Students will attend BRAINSHOWMANIA, a PTO sponsored assembly in the NSE gym, on Friday, January 12th.  Kindergarten is scheduled for 1:10pm.  All are invited to an evening show at 6:00 pm.  The whole family can join in the fun!!!

January Scholastic book orders are due by Monday, January 22 for anyone interested in ordering this month.

Friday, January 12 is a PBIS dress down for safety and participation.  Dress down will be jeans, sneakers, and a Spartan shirt.

For Reading we will start with Unit 3; Watch Me Change.  We will move on to the story, George Washington Visits.  It is a historical fiction story, and we will be discussing how life today is different from life 100s of years ago.  For phonics we will be working with the letters Dd and Kk and their sounds /d/ and /k/.

In Math we will be working with Topic 4; Compare and Order Numbers 0-10.  Review the daily practice pages with your child, practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s, review 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and identifying and writing numbers 0-20.

Accelerated Reader Lists are due Tuesday, January 2.  A new January list will go home Tuesday, January 2.
