In Reading the next story will be Jack and the Beanstalk.  It is a modern fairy tale.  We will be discussing more with realism and fantasy. 

For Math we will begin Topic 3:  Numbers 6-10.  Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.

AR/Book Buddy recording sheets for November will be due back to school on Thursday, November 30th.  Any student who reaches the goal of 15 books will receive a Pizza Hut Book It slip.

Wednesday, November 22 will be a 12:00 early dismissal.  There is no school November 23, 24, and 27.

Books orders are due Monday, November 20.

Wednesday, November 22 is PBIS Dress Down Day for those children who met their "SPARTY" goals.

November 13-17

In Reading we will begin the new story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence. 

In Math, we will start Topic 2 with comparing and ordering 0-5.  We will compare using more, fewer, and same as and learn ordinal numbers through fifth.  

Friday, 11/17 will be a dress down day to honor our Veterans.  Participating students are to donate one or more items from the list that was sent home on Wed. 11/8 for care packages!  If your child does not bring a donation, he/she should not dress down.  Thank you in advance for your participation.

We will begin preparing for “Thanksgiving”.  During the next two weeks, students will learn about the first Thanksgiving, will make pilgrim and Native American/Indian costumes, and will begin to learn a poem or song for the holiday.  We will make a Thanksgiving bracelet and will also discuss being “thankful”.  The students will even get to use a Native American name for a day!

The 1st Trimester will end on Tues. November 21st.  Report cards are scheduled to be sent home on Friday, Dec. 8th
Thursday, November 22nd will be an early dismissal day @ 12:00.  Students who earn 4 stamps for their PBIS card will also be rewarded on 11/22.  Encourage S-P-AR-T-Y behavior!!!  PLEASE NOTE--THIS WILL BE A NON-ROTATION DAY--no special class!
FYI:  The NS Student Council is sponsoring the Feed-a-Friend campaign in our school district.  The campaign will continue until Tues. November 14th.  We are collecting both non-perishable food and monetary donations to help less fortunate people in Schuylkill County enjoy a holiday dinner.  Student council representatives will be taking our donations to the Salvation Army in Pottsville on Wed. 11/15.

November 6-10
As we begin to finish our second month of school, you and your child should be practicing the following things daily:
--sight words 
--orally counting from 1-100
--writing numbers from 0-20


In Math we will be working with Topic 1:  One to Five.  Students will be counting sets of objects to 5, writing numbers 1-5, comparing sets, and representing numbers to 5.  Take some time to review daily worksheets.

In Reading we will read the book Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.  We will be discussing hibernation and will learn to differentiate between real and make believe.  The words we, my, and like will be reviewed.

The weather is quickly changing and the days are getting colder!  Be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat for recess. We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat. 

There is NO data delay for the month of November.

Book orders are due November 20.
