In Reading the next story will be Jack and the Beanstalk.  It is a modern fairy tale.  For Phonics we will be reviewing letter Ii and its short and long sounds and learning the letter Bb and its sound as in boy and balloon.  We will be discussing more with realism and fantasy. 

AR/Book Buddy recording sheets for November will be due back to school on Wednesday, November 30th.  Any student who reaches the goal of 15 books will receive a Pizza Hut Book It slip.

In Math we will be working with Topic 4; Compare and Order Numbers 0-10.  Review the daily practice pages with your child, practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s, review 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and identifying and writing numbers 0-20.

The Kindergarten Field trip to see the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble will be on Thursday, December 1st.  Students are asked to wear a polo shirt and dress code approved bottoms or better!  This means that students may wear Christmas dresses, suits, etc… (Even if they aren’t dress code appropriate).  Please remember that we are going to the theater and we will be representing NS.  Students should NOT wear gym clothes on the field trip!!  We will be leaving the school PROMPTLY at 9 AM and returning at approximately 12:30 PM.  Please make sure your child is on time for school!  We will be eating a regular school lunch after our field trip.  Please plan your child’s lunch as you normally do.


On Tuesday, November 29, a letter to Santa will be coming home for you to complete with your child. Please return this letter by Friday, December 2.  The letters will be picked up at school on Friday, December 2nd by Ms. Edmondson-who is a local mail carrier, and taken directly to Santa at the North Pole!  Please be sure to address the envelope to SANTA and include a RETURN ADDRESS.

November 21-23In Reading, we’ll finish Unit 2, Look at Us!  Our next story will be the classic fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk.  In Phonics, we will focus on the letter Nn in the initial and final position of words.  Our literary skill for the week will be realism and fantasy.
    In Math we will be working with Topic 4; Compare and Order Numbers 0-10.  Review the daily practice pages with your child, practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s, review 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and identifying and writing numbers 0-20.

The weather is quickly changing and the days are getting colder!  Please make sure that your child is coming to school dressed for the weather.  As the weather gets even colder, feel free to send in a spare hat and gloves for your child to leave in their locker in case they forget theirs at home.

In Reading we will begin the new story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will be working on the short /i/ sound as in inch, igloo, and iguana. 

In Math we will be finishing up Topic 3:  Numbers 6-10 and will begin Topic 4:  Comparing and Ordering numbers to 10.  Students should be practicing writing numbers from 0-10 and making numbers in different ways.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school. 

Ms. Clarissa Geary, Director of Education, Training and Volunteer Services for SARCC, will be presenting a Personal Body Safety Program to the class on Thursday, November 17th.  This message encourages healthy decision-making and communication.  Should you wish to EXCLUDE your child from participating, then please indicate that with a note to the school office. 

St. Clair Taco Bell invites you to come in and support NSE’s Accelerated Reading Program on Fundraiser Day, Thursday, Nov. 17th from 5-8 PM.  15% of your purchase will be donated to NSE.  Just give your ticket (that was sent home on Thurs. 11/10) to the cashier at checkout.

Friday, 11/18, is our school-wide dress down day.  Participating students are to bring a $1.00 donation!  Thank you in advance for your participation. 

There will be an early dismissal on Wednesday, November 23 at noon.  School will be closed November 24,25, 28.  It will reopen Tuesday, November 29.

If any of these sound familiar, send in a note and I'll be more than happy to send home with your child.

In Reading we will read the book Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.  We will be discussing hibernation and will learn to differentiate between real and make believe.  The words we, my, and like will be reviewed. 

For Math we will begin Topic 3:  Numbers 6-10.  Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.  

On Thursday, November 10th the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department will be visiting NSE and all Kindergarten students will be fingerprinted.   Families will receive the prints to keep for their records.

Just a reminder that Wednesday, November 9th is our monthly 2-hour data delay day.  It will be a NON-ROTATION day for special classes.

To wrap-up our Fire Prevention lessons, a local fire company will visit Kindergarten at the school on Friday, November 11th
