October 29- November 2
As we begin to finish our second month of school, you and your child should be practicing the following things daily:
--sight words 
--orally counting from 1-100
--writing numbers from 0-20

In Reading we will read the book Animal Babies in Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield. We will be talking about grassland animals, and practice the comprehension skill main idea.  The words we, my, and like will be introduced as new high frequency words.

In math, we will continue working on shapes.

Book Buddy recording sheets for October are due on Thursday, November 1.  Any student who reaches or exceeds the goal of 15 or more books will receive a PIZZA HUT BOOK IT coupon! 

Be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat for recess. We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat. 

Wednesday, October 31th will be the school-wide Halloween parade/party. The parade will begin at 2:00 pm with the Kindergarten students and end with 6th grade.  Students will parade in front of the HOME side bleachers at the HS stadium, weather permitting.  ALL are welcome to come to see the children parade. Your child should NOT wear his/her costume to school!  Please send the costume to school in a bag with your child’s name on the outside.  Students will get dressed in costumes in the classroom.  Keep in mind students will be dressing at school, so keep the costumes as simple as possible.  Parents are welcome to come and watch the parade at the HS Stadium!! Be sure to be there early as Kindergarten will be first!! 

Red Ribbon week continues on Monday, Crazy Hair Day and Tuesday, Wear Red.

October 22-26

In Reading we will begin to read the story Nature Spy.  We will be looking at what we can learn about nature when we look closely.   We will focus on learning the comprehension skill setting.

In math, we will continue our unit on shapes.

Red Ribbon week is from October 23-31.  Please follow the orange October calendar for the week's activities.

Please sign and return your child's RED field trip permission paper.

The Fall Festival is on Friday, October 26.  Students are allowed to wear jeans or sweat pants.

If you haven't turned in your child's $5 party money, please send it in as soon as possible.

October 15-19
You and your child should be practicing the following things daily:

--orally counting from 1-100
--writing numbers from 0-10


 For Reading we will begin Unit 2; Look at Us.  The first story is Flowers.  Please review recognizing capital and lowercase letters from Aa to Zz and the high frequency words; I, am, the, little, to, a, have and is.   Don’t forget to practice sight word flashcards daily!!!

In math, we are discussing shapes--circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval.

The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the Library starting Monday, October 15th  Parents will be able to shop with their child on Monday night 10/15 from 4-7 PM.   Mrs. Kaminsky's class will also be shopping in school on Tuesday, October 16th .

 Red Ribbon Week will begin on Monday, Oct. 22nd.  (Check out the orange monthly calendar for daily dress-up themes for the 22nd  through the 30th!)

Friday, October 19 is a Spartan Dress Down Day for $1.

October 9-12
There is no school for students on Monday, October 8

As we begin our second month of school, you and your child should be practicing the following things daily:

We will begin the story Dig, Dig, Digging in Reading.  We will be talking about how machines help people.  We will be practicing the skill classifying and categorizing. Continue to review the high frequency words; I, am, the, little, to, and a when you read together. 

In math we will begin discussing shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles and squares.

Oct. 7-13 is Fire Prevention Week so please take some time at home to discuss fire safety with your child and family.  Be sure to have a practice fire drill and create an escape plan with a designated meeting place.

If you didn't hand in your child's $3 for the Fall Festival, please do so ASAP.

Book orders are due Friday, October 12.

Our field trip is on Thursday, October 11.  More information will be sent home next week.

October 9-12 is Spirit Week. There will be a pep rally on Friday morning in the elementary gym.

With the cold weather arriving, please practice putting on coats, and zipping or buttoning them.
