In Phonics we will not be starting a new letter until after Christmas break. Word List 7 will come home when we return to school in January.

Instead of starting a new story in Reading, we’ll be reading several classic Christmas stories and doing some fun activities!

In Math we’ll review shapes, patterns, and numbers up to 10. We’ll also learn how to “decompose” numbers.

There will be no homework until after Christmas vacation.

Students were treated to an ice cream treat on Wednesday for doing such a great job bringing in donations for the Hurricane Sandy projects!

On December 21st, we will be celebrating the story the “The Polar Express.” Students are invited to dress like the characters of the story by wearing their pajamas to school. We will have hot chocolate, cookies, read the book “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg and watch the movie.

December 21st is an early dismissal for students (1:00)

Next week in Reading we will finish Unit 2 “Animals Live Here” and read the story Whose Garden Is It? The gardener says the garden belongs to him but the woodchuck insists that it's his! And so do the rabbit, the butterfly, the squash bug, and the bumblebee! Even the tiny seeds and whistling weeds think the garden just couldn't grow without them. As they stroll through the plants and flowers, Mrs. McGee and her child listen and wonder: Whose garden is it? We will be discussing gardens. Students will learn about realism and fantasy.

In Math, we’ll explore and learn about Geoboards. We’ll also practice shapes, patterns, and pennies.

On Tuesday, November 27th, a letter to Santa came home with your child. Please return this letter by Monday, December 3RD if you haven’t done so already. Our favorite local postman, Eric Hughes, will pick up our letters and take them directly to Santa at the North Pole next week! Students might even get a letter back from the North Pole!

December book orders are due Thursday, December 6th.
