In Phonics, we will finish learning about long vowels. The rule for long vowels is if the vowel is followed by anything other than a consonant then it is long (we code it with a macron.) Students will also learn about the digraph ck like at the end of duck.
In Reading, we’ll read “The Little Engine that Could.” In this classic story, a little train carrying toys to all of the good boys and girls is confronted with a seemingly impassable mountain. As nicely as they ask, the toys cannot convince the Shiny New Engine or the Big Strong Engine to say anything but "I cannot. I cannot." It is left up to the Little Blue Engine to overcome the odds and pull the train to the other side. We will discuss make believe transportation. Students will learn about plot. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.
In Math students will measure the capacity of containers using nonstandard units and then order the containers. Students will also solve “some, some more” problems. Finally students will learn about a new shape, the cone.

Order forms for the Kindergarten Graduation DVD were sent home this week. This is a great Kindergarten keepsake! Order forms are due back by Wednesday, May 8th! NO ORDERS WILL BE TAKEN AFTER THIS DATE!
T-shirt order forms were sent home last week from the Track and Field team. These shirts are being sold to benefit Mary Piaskowski. Mary is an aide at NSE and spends a lot of time in a Kindergarten classroom. Mary is battling breast cancer and needs all of our support!
Our Field Trip will be on Thursday, May 23rd. We will be attending the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in Hershey at the Giant Center!

Kindergarten graduation will be Tuesday, May 28th (evening) in the high school auditorium.
