In Reading we will begin to read the story Nature Spy .  We will be looking at what we can learn about nature when we look closely.   We will focus on learning the comprehension skill setting and practice the learned high frequency words.
This week we will be learning the consonant letter Ss as in sun, snake, and Saturday.
For Math we will be continuing with Topic 2, so be sure to review counting sets/objects to 5, comparing sets, and writing and reading numbers 0-5.  Also review the words/concepts more, fewer, and same as
Anyone who has not yet turned in his/her $5 to cover costs for the Halloween/Valentine’s parties, please do so as soon as possible.  Thank you!!
Students and Parents K-12 are invited to attend the October Informational District Parent Meeting on Monday, Oct. 27th 6:00-7:00 pm @ the NSE Library.
Red Ribbon Week campaign is set for October 27-31, 2014.  The theme is “Love Yourself, Be Drug Free!”  --Check out the week’s scheduled events /information sheet in your child’s folder!  (Mon. 10/27—wear crazy socks; Tues. 10/28 –wear orange; Wed. 10/29 –wear your mustaches and NS mustache shirts; Thurs. 10/30 --- crazy hair; Fri. 10/31 – wear NS red)
Students received their FREE, red NS t-shirts from the PTO this week.  Boys and girls can wear them now, but be sure to keep them handy for the class field trip in May!
Vision Screenings will take place this week for KindergartenMrs. Kaminsky's class is scheduled for Thursday, October 30th between 9:00-9:45.  Please try to be present!
Friday, October 31st will be our classroom Halloween parade and party from 1:30-3:00.  Homeroom helpers, who are PTO members and have clearances on file in the office, will be permitted to go to the classroom @ 1:30 but should be at the school a bit earlier to be checked in at the front door (this sometimes takes awhile due to the number of parents entering!)  The parade will begin at 2:00pm with Kindergarten leading the way.  Students will parade in the upper bus loop.  ALL are welcome to come to see the children parade.  Parties will end by 3:00 pm.  Your child should NOT wear his/her costume to school!  Please send the costume to school in a bag with your child’s name on the outside.  Students will get dressed in costumes with the help of teachers and homeroom helpers.  Keep in mind students will be dressing at school, so keep the costumes as simple as possible.  (No spraying hair at school, or a face full of make-up at school) 
Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, November 10th from 12:00-6:00.  Please be sure to return conference forms ASAP—a schedule will be sent home next week.
